What is counselling and psychotherapy?

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling/ Psychotherapy is a talking therapy, which offers you an opportunity to deeply explore your concerns affecting your life, feelings, thoughts and experiences in a safe environment without being judged. We all have difficulties at some time in our life. The memory of these experiences and the painful feelings associated with them  can be felt for a long time afterwards, without being acknowledged.

Unresolved feelings can result in emotional problems and/or health failure. Identifying that there is a need to seek help is the first step to recovery. Counselling can take place when a person who has an emotionally or psychologically related difficulty seeks the assistance of a counsellor to find a way to deal with it.

Counselling is a confidential service. It is professionally necessary to maintain safety and privacy within the therapeutic relationship, therefore confidentiality is essential. Only in the very exceptional circumstances when I might feel you are in danger or seriously harming yourself or someone else, would I want to discuss your situation with another professional. I would always endeavour to discuss this with you first.

People will often turn to counselling at particular times in their lives because they are distressed, unhappy, or feel troubled in a way that is hard to describe. These feelings may be caused by painful experiences, current circumstances or worries about the future. Others will use counselling to assist them in their personal growth and personal awareness.

Counselling/ Psychotherapy can help us to find new ways to understand our concerns and develop clarity and insight.  Counselling can be a process of freeing up unexpressed feelings, building confidence and then, slowly, with the help of the counsellor, finding the solutions to cope with and improve our lives. When you come to see a counsellor you are encouraged to talk about your feelings, thoughts and experiences.

Our Treatment Focus

Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.
